Sarah-Jane Smith is standing down as editor of the Shropshire Star after 10 years in the job.
Smith, who said she is standing down to “pursue other interests”, has worked at Midland News Association since 1979 when she was a trainee at the Shropshire Star, before moving on to sister title the Express & Star.
She has been replaced as editor of the Shropshire Star and Shropshire Weekly Newspapers by Express & Star deputy editor Keith Harrison with immediate effect.
In a statement released today Smith said: ‘It has been a privilege to work for the MNA in so many roles during my 32 years at the company. I will certainly miss my team, of whom I have always been immensely proud, but I am delighted to wish the company every deserved success in the future.”
Jon Simcock remains deputy editor of the Shropshire Star.
In May, MNA announced it was making 90 staff redundant. Last month an email sent by the Express & Star’s staff council to all employees revealed that out of 90 voluntary redundancies sought only 41 applicants had come forward.
Thirty staff are being made redundant at the Shropshire Star.
