More Johnston Press photographers have been put at risk of redundancy, with the latest set lose their jobs lost before Christmas.
The publisher has axed a number of photography positions over the last year, including in Scotland, the Midlands and the South Publishing Unit – where ten jobs were put at risk last month.
Johnston Press has declined to say how many positions have been put at risk in the latest round of cuts.
But Holdthefrontpage reports that all staff photographers based in Wakefield and Dewsbury, and all those at the Yorkshire Regional Newspapers division, are set to lose their jobs. In addition, the site reports that six out of nine photographers in the North West, working across Blackpool's Gazette, the Lancashire Evening Post and Wigan Evening Post, are understood to be at risk.
According to the website, the three North West photography positions will be kept alongside a picture editor and deputy picture editor and the consultation period will end on 3 December.
A JP spokesperson said: “We are currently looking at reorganising our photographic services in the North West and Yorkshire and discussions are now taking place with the teams involved in those regions.
“New ways of working – which have resulted in a reduction in photographic roles – have been successfully implemented in some of JP’s other regions and our teams in Yorkshire and the North West are now working with the editorial teams to establish whether similar approaches are to be adopted.
“I can’t confirm numbers as the discussions are still ongoing – but we are working hard to support staff who may be affected.”
