Local newspaper publisher KM Group is planning to close one of its subbing centres and centralise its sub-editing operations to a single office.
The family-owned company, which publishes 14 newspapers including the flagship Kent Messenger newspaper, currently has news production desks based in Larkfield, near Maidstone, and Wraik Hill, near Whitstable.
Under the proposal it has put forward all news and sports sub-editors would be moved to the Wraik Hill building.
There are no plans to reduce the number of full and part-time staff on the production desk, the company said.
Ian Carter, editorial director of KM Group, said: “KM Group firmly believes in keeping a fully-staffed, Kent-based production desk.
“The experience and talent we have in the subbing team plays a vital role in ensuring we produce market-leading newspapers.
“However, by basing the team in one location we will be able to work more efficiently whilst achieving consistent standards of design and content.”
