The former editor of York Press, Kevin Booth, has been named as the new editor of the Burton Mail and its associated weekly titles.
Booth is currently deputy head of production at Northcliffe’s centralised subbing operation in Stoke.
He will take up his new role with Staffordshire Newspapers daily on September 28.
Before joining Northcliffe Booth was editor of Newsquest York newspaper, The Press.
He left the title earlier this year after Newsquest reduced its senior management in York from three posts to a single role.
Booth has also worked for the Bristol Evening Post, the Sentinel, in Stoke, the Derby Evening Telegraph and the Birmingham Mail.
He said: “I’m delighted to be joining Staffordshire Newspapers (a division of Iliffe News and Media) and returning to the editor’s chair.
“I’m very impressed with the company’s commitment to local newspapers and look forward to the challenge of taking the Burton Mail forward.
“I have some significant and exciting plans for the newspaper, its website and associated titles, but obviously prefer to outline them to staff before speaking publicly.”
