Johnston Press to save £1m a year as The Scotsman moves office

By Oliver Jones

Johnston Press will save £1m a year by relocating The Scotsman from Barclay House on Holyrood Road in Edinburgh to Orchard Brae House on Queensferry Road, according to a rival newspaper.

The rent of the new downsized headquarters is estimated at around £555,000 a year, the Sunday Herald reports.

Johnston Press is currently paying £1.5m a year in rent for Barclay House, the Herald says.

Other titles including Scotland on Sunday and the Edinburgh Evening News will also move to the newly refurbished 1970s office block.

The move comes as part of chief executive Ashley Highfield’s rationalisation policy to help pay back company debt which current stands at £302m.

Rockstar North, the computer games firm which created Grand Theft Auto, will replace The Scotsman at Barclay House.
