ITV News appoints former Channel 4 News reporter as political correspondent

By William Turvill

ITV News has appointed a former Channel 4 reporter as its political correspondent.

Carl Dinnen moves into ITV’s Westminster operation, replacing Lucy Manning, who was recently made UK editor of ITV News.

Dinnen has previously worked as Ireland correspondent for GMTV, Midlands correspondent for Channel 4 News and, more recently, a Channel 4 News reporter specialising in defence and Irish affairs.

Jonathan Munro, acting editor and director of newsgathering at ITV News, said: “I’m delighted that Carl is joining ITV News as our new political correspondent.

“He has an impressive record in defence issues, home and foreign affairs and I’m looking forward to him making a major contribution to our political coverage.”

Dinnen was part of the Channel 4 News team that won a BAFTA in 2012 and conducted a number of high-profile stories for the channel.

These included investigations into the number British military children to have lost parents in Iraq and Afghanistan and the treatment of Commonwealth soldiers facing deportation
