Herald reveals that Scottish footballer who broke man’s jaw has Google ‘right to be forgotten’

By William Turvill

The Herald in Glasgow has reported how a story about a footballer assaulting his wife’s lover has been subject to a successful ‘right to be forgotten’ request.

Searching ‘Ray Stewart’, a former Scotland, Dundee United and West Ham United player, on EU Google sites will now not return a 1996 court report describing how he broke the jaw and nose a nightclub DJ who “he found in bed with his then estranged partner”.

According to the Herald, Stewart admitted to the attack and served 240 hours of community service.

Google did not disclose to the paper who had made the ‘right to be forgotten’ request.

The Herald said two other stories “featuring English court cases”, from 1993 and 2000, had had links removed by Google under the ‘right to be forgotten’.
