Heartland Evening News switches to mornings

By Press Gazette

The Nuneaton-based Heartland Evening News is switching to morning publication and ditching a taxi service that used to deliver some afternoon copies.

Editor of the 5,123-circulation title Tony Parratt said: ‘More and more newspapers are taking this route, and we are aware that people want the paper out on the streets earlier.

‘In effect we are coming out with the morning papers so we are hoping the longer shelf life will inevitably lead to better sales. It’s the way of the world. We have a very good website and we are using that for breaking news.”

The paper, published by Staffordshire Newspapers, a division of Iliffe News and Media, used to have a daily van delivery, while the rest of the copies were delivered by taxi. It will now be delivered by wholesale distributors to more outlets.

The News had gone to press at 9.30am on the day of publication but is now to go 11.30pm the night before. It will continue to be called the Heartland Evening News.
