Award-winning former Coventry Telegraph editor Darren Parkin took up his new role as editor of Lanzarote-based magazine Canarias Brillante this week.
The title launches next month as a high-quality, glossy magazine covering all seven of the Canary Islands.
The move sees Parkin return to publisher Canary Island Publications, where he worked ten years ago before returning to the UK.
Parkin, who was suspended over his use of Twitter in June of this year and left the company a month later, won the UK Press Gazette Young Journalist of the Year three years in a row in the 1990s.
He became one the UK’s youngest newspaper editors at the age of 24 when he took over the Wolverhampton News, and is a former chief reporter at the Solihull Times and Birmingham Metro News.
He was appointed editor of the Telegraph in 2009, having previously been editor-in-chief of Trinity Mirror’s Coventry-based weeklies.
Last week Trinity announced that Parkin had been replaced by Birmingham Post editor Alun Thorne.
