Scottish weekly the Dunfermline Press has today made the switch from broadsheet to tabloid format.
The paper said the move was the result of demand from readers who had ‘told us in your thousands that size matters and so Fife’s biggest-selling weekly is switching from broadsheet and changing to a more compact and readable format”.
The paper’s managing editor Simon Harris said: “The Press was founded in 1859 and has always been broadsheet.
“It was not an easy decision but we have responded to many requests from our readers to change size.
“We plan to have some new features and plenty of great photographs, stories and advertising features.
“But it’s important to keep the quality and ethos of the paper too.
“It’s simply time to modernise a bit while keeping all the great aspects of our tradition that’s made the Press tried, trusted and tested for 152 years.”
The first edition of the new Press will be out next Thursday morning.
The latest figures from the ABC show a 5.7 per drop in circulation to 15,679 in the first six months of this year.
