By Dominic Ponsford

It has warned staff that up to 30 jobs may need to be cut – and it also considering a group wide pay freeze next year.

In a statement to staff he said: “Ensuring our business remains at the centre of the communities we serve will remain foremost in our thinking.

‘I am confident that our plan has the balance between saving costs and being realistic, whilst ensuring we have a viable business to take forward for the future when the economy improves”.

The CN Group portfolio includes daily newspapers The News and Star in Carlisle and the Barrow-based North West Evening Mail as well as weekly titles the the Cumberland News, the Whitehaven News, The Times and Star and The Hexham Courant.
