Birmingham Post considers daily tablet edition after scrapping iPad Business Daily

By Darren Boyle

Trinity Mirror is considering launching a daily tablet edition of the Birmingham Post, Press Gazette has learned.

This follows the closure of a daily business subscription service for electronic tablets and smartphones which was launched in July 2013.

The Birmingham Post Business Daily was published five days a week for a £9.99 a month subscription.

It promised the latest news relating to the West Midlands business community downloaded to a subscriber’s tablet each morning.

However, yesterday Trinity Mirror announced it was scrapping the service.

In a statement, Trinity Mirror said: “It is in the nature of being an innovative business in a fast-changing sector that some new initiatives do not succeed, and this has been the case with Business Daily.

“However, we have learned a great deal about publishing for tablets and the local business audience and have also been able to experiment with data journalism and info graphics thanks to the project.

“All of this will stand us in good stead for the future as we look to develop the online and print presence of the Birmingham Post.

“Indeed, we will use the Business Daily’s technological platform to develop a new e-edition of the Birmingham Post.”

The Birmingham Post went from daily to weekly in 2009.

Earlier this month, Trinity Mirror launched a Sunday edition of the Liverpool Echo following the closure of the weekly Liverpool Post in December.
