The football editor of the Birmingham Mail has been made editor of the Coventry Telegraph.
Keith Perry, who was previously sports editor of the Coventry title for five years, replaces Alun Thorne, who resigned from the paper in October.
In a press release, Trinity Mirror, which owns both the Birmingham and Coventry titles, said that Perry is returning at “an exciting time for the title”.
It said: “The Telegraph has seen significant growth in its online audience, while new developments in Coventry are creating a new buzz in the city. Sky Blues have returned to the Ricoh Stadium and top-flight rugby has arrived in the form of premiership side Wasps.”
Perry said: “I know that it is a very talented newsroom and I am looking forward to working with the team there to accelerate our audience growth.
"I will be sad to leave the Birmingham Mail, but the football department is now well placed to build on the success we have achieved in the last few months."
Trinity Mirror Midlands editor-in-chief Marc Reeves said: "We had a very strong field of candidates for one of the plum jobs in the regional media, but Keith is the person we need to take the Telegraph's growth to new levels.
“He has the drive and vision to keep the Telegraph at the centre of people's lives in Coventry. I'm really looking forward to working with him in his new role."
Perry will start in his new role on 2 February.
