Around ten Johnston Press photographers said to be at risk of redundancy

Another group of Johnston Press staff photographers have been put at risk of redundancy.

There have been a number of photographer job losses across JP over the last year, including in Scotland, the Midlands and the North West. Overall, the publisher axed 1,600 jobs over the 2012 and 2013 financial years.

According to Holdthefrontpage, the latest round of cut-backs could see ten jobs in JP’s South Publishing Unit lost, including three staff photographer roles and the picture editor position at the News in Portsmouth.

It also reported that jobs on the Chichester Observer and West Sussex County Times are to be affected.

A JP spokesperson said: “A number of photographic roles have been placed at risk in the South Publishing Unit of Johnston Press following a proposal to change the way photographic content is generated.

“Local managers are making these difficult decisions to help ensure a sustainable, multi-platform future for local journalism. The company is committed to being as supportive as possible in making this transition to a successful digital future. Consultation is now under way with affected staff.”
