Archant gets in at the start with monthly newspaper for new Devon town

By Darren Boyle

Archant has launched a new monthly newspaper for Devon’s newest town Cranbrook.

The A4 sized free newspaper is 48 pages and was produced by existing staff based in East Devon. The second edition in October will feature 56 pages.

The paper was delivered door-to-door and handed to 180 children from the town’s new primary school to bring home to their parents.

Cranbrook is the first new town built in Devon since the Middle Ages and residents have already moved into the first 250 homes. Once completed, the town will have 6,000 houses. It is located between Exeter and Taunton.

Group editor Phil Griffin said: “The idea is to grow the paper’s print run as the new town grows over coming years. Midweek Herald reporters Katy Griffin, Chris Carson and Callum Lawton did sterling work bringing in a host of stories on the fledgling community – while reporting on their established patches at the same time.

“It’s only early days in the Cranbrook story, but there are strong signs that it will become a great place to live. We want to join residents on that journey to becoming a vibrant community.”

A new Cranbrook Herald website as well as associated Facebook and Twitter feeds will be launched in the coming days.
