Archant has appointed Tara Greaves as its first sustainability correspondent to report on her employer’s efforts to become more environmentally aware.
Greaves, currently environment correspondent for the Eastern Daily Press and the Evening News in Norwich, will take up her new role on 19 July.
As sustainability correspondent, Greaves will produce stories about Archant’s efforts to become more sustainable, which will be published in its own titles and elsewhere.
As part of the publisher’s procurement and sustainability department, she will also have responsibility for keeping staff informed about sustainability efforts at the regional newspaper company.
Greaves said: “It was a tough decision to leave a job that I love but, after six years, I felt it was the right time for a new challenge.
“Like the environment, sustainability is a subject that I feel passionately about and even during the interview process for the new role I have learned so many things that the company is doing to be more sustainable and I think other staff will appreciate hearing about them too.
“Many people have asked me what sustainability means and I tell them it is about looking at what we do today to see if it can be done in a better way that perhaps doesn’t use as much of the planet’s resources so that we can carry on doing it in the future, hopefully at a lower financial cost.”
Greaves began her career at the Evening Star in Ipswich in 1997 as an editorial assistant before moving to train as a journalist with Johnston Press and then working at the Haverhill Echo, in Suffolk.
She rejoined Archant as a senior reporter for the EDP in 2002 and two years was appointed as environment correspondent.
