The week in brief: Archant office up for sale, Telegraph staff shake-up, editors in academic moves

Archant has put its East London headquarters, where around 100 employees are based, up for sale.

According to Holdthefrontpage, it is looking for a smaller premises when it departs its Ilford home (pictured, Google).

It comes after a number of production roles were switched to a central subbing hub in Norwich.


Wakefield Express editor Mark Bradley has joined Sheffield University as a journalism lecturer.

Bradley, who was group editor across 12 Johnston Press weeklies, first took over at the Express in December 2000.


Former regional newspaper editor David Rowell has been appointed as a board member and trustee of the National Council for the Training of Journalists.

Rowell, who edited the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, Northampton Chronicle and Echo, Northants Evening Telegraph, is also Johnson Press’s head of editorial learning and development.


Telegraph Media Group deputy editor Mark Skipworth has taken on a role in which he will take responsibility for “creating and overseeing the print production unit, the team which will take TMG’s great digital content and fashion it into a brilliant newspaper every day”.

Ben Clissitt, digital director of visual journalism, will take on “the vital job of setting up the Digital Quality unit and running it” before departing for Bloomberg.

Associate editor Richard Preston has been appointed head of world news, with the Telegraph planning on “re-fashioning the foreign department into a digital-first operation”. He replaces David Munk, who is moving to Australia, and will work with Malcolm Moore, who is being replaced as Beijing correspondent by Tom Phillips, as his deputy.

Also, senior video planner Jon Laurence “will bring his energy, ideas and story-telling flair to the new role of Head of Planning, helping to increase the delivery of better and more timely and co-ordinated digital content, especially video, across all of Editorial”.
