Telegraph investigations editor Holly Watt joins The Guardian

By William Turvill

Daily Telegraph investigations and Whitehall editor Holly Watt is to join The Guardian.

Her departure comes at the end of a week in which chief political commentator Peter Oborne announced his resignation and questioned the editorial integrity of the title's HSBC coverage.

Other high-profile journalists to leave the Telegraph in recent months include: columnist Matthew D'Ancona, deputy editor Benedict Brogan, Mandrake editor Tim Walker and assistant comment editor Tom Chivers.

According to The Guardian's head of news Stuart Millar's Twitter account, Watt is joining the paper's investigations team along with Times Red Box reporter Alice Ross. They will both be working for the paper as investigations correspondents.

Watt joined the Telegraph in April 2009 after working for four years at The Sunday Times.

She was part of the team to break the MPs' expenses scandal and was, along with colleagues, shortlisted at the 2014 British Journalism Awards breaking news award for coverage of the FIFA files.

She and colleagues from the Telegraph have also been shortlisted for this coverage at this year's Paul Foot Award.

Ross formerly worked at the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.
