Sunday Times News Review editor put in charge of The Times Saturday edition

By Press Gazette

The Times has appointed Sunday Times Review News Review editor Eleanor Mills to edit its Saturday edition, moving current editor George Brock to the role of international editor.

Mills, who has edited the News Review since 2001, was previously editor of the Sunday Times Focus section, leading the paper’s news features coverage. Before that she was the paper’s main interviewer, sitting down with Mikhail Gorbachev and Charlton Heston among many others.

Brock, a long-standing Times man who joined in as a reporter in 1981, oversaw the launch of the tabloid edition in 2003 during his seven years as managing editor. The former president of the World Editors’ Forum, will now be tasked with increasing the Times’ readership abroad.

James Harding, editor of The Times, said: ‘Eleanor is a terrific journalist and a brilliant editor, who generates ideas, brings out the best in writers and has an uncanny understanding of how to tickle the interests of readers.

‘She and her strong team have ensured that The Sunday Times News Review is without peer on a Sunday. I am thrilled that she will be bringing her judgment, intelligence and flair to The Times on a Saturday.”

He continued: ‘George’s appointment signals the scale of our ambitions internationally, both online and in print. He has developed The Times on a Saturday with style, soul and a sense of humour, he is one of the paper’s most respected journalists and as a former president of the World Editors Forum, he is singularly placed to develop opportunities for The Times in new places, on new platforms and in new products.

‘Thanks to our international print partnerships and overseas online readers, The Times now has more readers around the globe than at any time in its history. I am delighted that George will develop our brand and our audience around the world.”
