The Sun on Sunday is to follow the lead of tabloid rivals the Sunday Mirror and Sunday People with a 10p cover price rise this weekend.
The new price of 70p for the paper comes just a week after a “refresh” of the News UK title, which saw Victoria Newton installed as editor and the start of a major marketing push.
This weekend will see a newly revamped “cleaner and smarter” Sunday Mirror hit the newsstands, with the Daily Mirror also being redesigned and a shake-up of the Sunday People also believed to be in the pipeline.
Last week, both of Trinity Mirror Sunday titles increased their cover price from £1 to £1.10, meaning there will still be a 40p price gap between them and the News UK title after this weekend.
When it launched last February, the Sun on Sunday was priced at 50p. News UK raised the price by 10p initially in April this year, with chief executive Mike Darcey saying readers should be charged a “fair price”.
