Sun launches The Great British Sound-Off to find a new columnist

The Sun has re-launched its annual competition to find a new columnist.

The Great British Sound-Off is a new version of the newspaper’s previous Column Idol competition with the addition of age categories for 18-24 year olds and over 25's.

Hopeful applicants can enter by writing why they deserve to win, as well as 200 words on a subject they feel passionate about.

Five finalists from the 18-24 category will see their column entry published in The Sun and win a place at the News Academy Summer School in August and a further five finalists from the over-25 category will see their column appear in the paper and get to visit The Sun’s office. The overall winner will have a full-page column published in the paper.

Sun editor David Dinsmore said: “The Great British Sound-Off is a great chance to see your writing in the pages of The Sun. It doesn’t matter how old you are, or where you come from – if you’ve got opinions and can tell them in a readable way we want to hear from you. This isn’t just a competition either. The first winner of this contest now works in The Sun’s features team. The GBSO could be the start of your career!”

Entries close at midnight on Sunday 5 July.
