Sun claims 9m daily social media reach for Dream Team as it launches football game for new season

By Dominic Ponsford

The Sun today launched Dream Team, its online fantasy football game, hoping to top last year’s total of 1.25m players.

The site has become a major revenue driver for The Sun, with players invited to pay too enter cash leagues in order to qualify for prizes totalling £1m and enhanced online features.

According to The Sun’s dream team manager Harry Burt, Dream Team has a reach on social media of 9m a day. It is said to be particularly popular with 18 to 30-year-old men who are difficult to reach via other media.

The Sun also makes significant revenue online from its paid-for Sun Bingo game.

The Sun’s other major online money maker is set to be Sun Bets, a gambling website which is due to launch in the near future.

The Sun website has been free online since November when it dropped its paywall.
