Stuart James made editor of Daily Star Sunday

By William Turvill

Daily Star Sunday deputy Stuart James has been named as the title's new editor.

James replaces Peter Carbery, who was made editor two years ago and left the newspaper in February this year.

According to Gorkana, James has worked for the Daily Star Sunday since its launch and has been acting editor since Carbery's departure.

James's LinkedIn page shows that he was previously sports editor of the South Wales Echo.

Carbery's departure was first reported in January this year. At that time, well-placed sources told Press Gazette that Daily Star editor Dawn Neesom was to take charge of the title as the Star moved towards becoming a seven-day operation.

In January, an Express Newspapers source told Press Gazette that the Sunday title had around 12 editorial staff.

In July, the Daily Star Sunday recorded an average circulation of 262,372, compared with the daily's 411,725. This figure was down 11.7 per cent year on year.

In the summer of 2011, when the News of the World was closed, the Daily Star Sunday recorded average circulations of more than 700,000.
