By Emma Slawinski

London Evening Standard news editor Hugh Dougherty is leaving to join the Daily Mail after seven years with the paper.

Dougherty is expected to become part of the Daily Mail’s newsdesk team next month.

Dougherty said “I’ve had an amazing seven years at the Standard and it has been a pleasure to work alongside some of the best journalists on Fleet Street.”

The Standard’s executive news editor, Amy Iggulden, will replace Dougherty as news editor.

Iggulden joined the Standard as health correspondent from Telegraph Media Group in June 2007, becoming executive news editor in January.

Greig said: “Hugh has been an exceptionally good news editor, in one of the most demanding jobs in daily journalism, and I wish him all the best for the future.

“I am confident that the flair and commitment Amy will bring to the job will see her rise to the challenge of her new post.”
