The new editor of the Belfast Telegraph is expected to be officially unveiled today following the retirement of the former editor last week.
Martin Lindsay retired from the Independent Newspapers daily on Friday after 47 years with the paper, the last four of which he spent as editor.
Press Gazette understands that an announcement about his replacement is likely today, possibly as early as lunchtime.
Speculation has been building that former Scotsman editor, Mike Gilson, could be appointed as the new editor.
Gilson left the Scotsman in February as parent company Johnston Press started the process to merge the newsroom of the Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday papers.
He had edited the paper for two and a half years after joining in September 2006 from The News, in Portsmouth, which he had previously edited for six years.
