The birth of the new royal baby made the front page of every major UK national newspaper today, bar one – and prompted no less than four souvenir editions.
While pictures of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s with their third child were splashed over the newsstand, it was strictly business at the Financial Times who did not even deem it worthy of a front page nib.
The Daily Mail boasts a 16-page souvenir pull-out with “unrivalled pictures and reports” and runs a poster picture on its front page of the new baby with his hand outstretched – “His first royal wave,” the paper says.
The Daily Express has nine pages of coverage along with the Daily Telegraph. The Express says today’s weather is “fit for a prince”.
As the prince is the William and Kate’s third child, the Mirror runs with the sub-head: “Triple Crown” while the Metro headline reads: “Three cheers!”
The Sun has dedicated ten pages to the royal baby, but notes, in wry reference to the fact that the new prince shares his birthday with William Shakespeare, that it is “much ado about nothing”.
It also references the Bard – and the royal baby’s St George’s Day birthday – in its headline: “Cry for mummy, England and St George.”
