
The Guardian won three awards at last night’s Association of Online Publishers Awards, while the Sun Online and Trinity Mirror’s Gazette Live in Teesside won two.
The Guardian’s “Islamophonic” won best podcast, its Second Life film and music festival Secondfest won the innovation awards and its multtimedia feature “Amis on Blair” won the digital creativity prize.
The Sun Online took two awards. Its Augsut 2006 relaunch won the design and usability award. The Sun also won the ward for best use of video – the judges commended its reporting of the US friendly fire story, which was linked to by media organisations around the world and generated almost one million views.
Gazette Live, the website of the Evening Gazette in Teesside, won two prizes – Best Consumer Site and the Online Communities Award.
The judges said the Gazette had set a “new benchmark for local news sits” and its hyperlocal postcode-level blogs were a “great example of how to make local news real, with relevant interactivity.”
Telegraph.co.uk won Best Consumer Publisher and Reed Business Information won in the Best Business publisher category.
FT.com scooped the prize for best consumer editorial team and CNet’s Silicon.com won the business editorial team of the year awards.
Channel 4 won the new launch award for its on-demand service 4od.
