Mother and son charged with ‘misconduct in public office’ following Fleet Street bribes probe

The Metropolitan Police today charged a man and summonsed his mother in connection with Operation Elveden.

The pair face two charges of conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office.

So far, detectives from Operation Elveden have arrested more than 80 people.

Senior lawyer Gregor McGill of the Crown Prosecution Service said:  “The CPS has today authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Thomas Ridgeway and to summons his mother Sandra Ridgeway with two counts of conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office.

“Both individuals will appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 13 January 2014.

“May I remind all concerned that criminal proceedings against Thomas and Sandra Ridgeway will now be commenced and that both have a right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

(1) Thomas RIDGEWAY and Sandra RIDGEWAY, between the 6th November 2004 and the 30th December 2004, conspired together to commit Misconduct in Public Office,

Contrary to section 1(1) Criminal Law Act 1977.

(2) Thomas RIDGEWAY and Sandra RIDGEWAY, between the 20th July 2009 and the 31st July 2009, conspired together to commit Misconduct in Public Office,

Contrary to section 1(1) Criminal Law Act 1977.
