London's cloudy weather may have made today's eclipse a non-event for many in the UK capital.
But the Daily Mirror did not let this ruin its fun, using the event as an opportunity to tease a tabloid rival.
The newspaper today ran an advert, also displayed on a digital billboard at Westfield Shepherd's Bush, with the words: "Eclipse of The Sun. Total Audience 17.5M v The Sun 13.6M".
The advert comes after National Readership Survey figures from last month showed The Sun's monthly net readership, online and in print, is 13.6m, behind Metro, The Guardian and the Telegraph.
The Mirror's 17.5m readers make it the second most popular national newspaper brand, behind the Daily Mail on 23.4m.
The Sun's total readership has declined since it puts its website behind an online paywall in August 2013.
According to the NRS it has around 1m readers a month online in the UK, around a tenth the total of the Mirror.
