Detectives from the Met’s corruption investigation Operation Elveden have arrested a 32-year-old woman.
She was arrested by appointment on suspicion of corruption under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906 and aiding and abetting misconduct in a public office, and conspiracy in relation to both offences.
The Press Association has named the woman as Sun defence editor Virginia Wheeler.
She is currently being held in custody at a south London police station, the Met said in a statement.

This is the twenty third arrest as part of Operation Elveden. The Met said: “The operation is investigating suspected payments to police officers and public officials and is not about seeking journalists to reveal confidential sources in relation to information that has been obtained legitimately.
“The operation is the result of information provided to police by News Corporation‘s Management Standards Committee.”
Although the Met has not revealed whether the woman is a journalist, the charge is the same as that applied to many of the journalists who have been arrested as part of the Elveden probe.
