Katie Price plus two other models and a policeman settle News of the World phone-hacking claims

By PA Media Lawyer

Model Katie Price has settled her phone-hacking damages claim against News Group Newspapers, the High Court has heard.

NGN issued an apology while the model received undisclosed damages.

The newspaper group also settled hacking claims against Stephen Chamberlain, former assistant chief constable for South Yorkshire; his wife Helen, who is a superintendent with Nottinghamshire Police.

Further apologies were offered from NGN’s counsel Dinah Rose to models Lauren Pope and Gemma Atkinson, who also settled claims and received damages.

None of the claimants were in court today.

The court heard that between 2000 and 2011 that Price had concerns about her privacy after numerous stories appeared about her in the now defunct News of the World.

Solicitor Charlotte Ward said Price was forced to change her number several times and sweep her home for bugs.

In late 2011, the Metropolitan Police contacted the model saying NGN may have unlawfully obtained private and confidential information.

In a statement to the court, NGN apologised for what happened through their counsel Dinah Rose:

"The defendant is here today through me to offer its sincere apologies to the claimants for the damage, as well as the distress, caused to them.

"The defendant acknowledges that the information should never have been obtained or used in the manner it was and that the defendant is liable for misuse of private information and breach of confidence."
