Janine Gibson has been promoted to the new role of editor, Guardian.co.uk.
She is currently editor-in-chief of Media Guardan and editor of G3, which covers the paper’s various weekday specialist supplements.
In her new job she will report to editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger and director of digital content Emily Bell.
Gibson began her career in trade magazines, first on Televisual – a monthly magazine for independent producers – and then on Broadcast where she was international editor.
She became media correspondent of The Independent before moving on to the same job at The Guardian. She then became media editor of The Guardian and then launch editor of the Media Guardian website.
As of September, The Guardian was the most popular UK website newspaper website with 24.2 million unique users a month.
