By Press Gazette

The Guardian’s associate city editor Jane Martinson has been appointed as editor of the paper’s weekly supplement Media Guardian.

Martinson moved to the Guardian in 1999 as Wall Street correspondent based in New York after previously working for the Financial Times.

In 2002 she returned to London as City news editor and was appointed media business editor in 2004.

Media Guardian editor-in-chief of Janine Gibson said: ‘This is one of the most prestigious and challenging media jobs in the business, Matt Wells will be a hard act to follow but we are delighted to have secured Jane who will bring a great blend of city and media experience to the role. ‘

Martinson, who will begin her role in January 2008, replaces Matt Wells who is to become head of audio.
