Award-winning former News of the World US editor James Desborough is looking to resuming his career after ‘eight months on hold’following his arrest on suspicion of phone-hacking.
Desborough, who was arrested last August, was yesterday told he was released from bail with no further action.
His lawyer Julian Young said Desborough had co-operated fully with police, allowing officers access to personal information, to prove his innocence.
In a statement released today he said: ‘I would like to thank my friends and family, especially my mother and father, for standing by me unwaveringly over the last few months.
“I am especially grateful to my solicitor Julian Young who has been nothing short of brilliant throughout. I look forward to resuming my career, after eight months on hold.”
Desborough is the third Operation Weeting suspect to be told they will not be charged since the investigation was launched in January last year. The other two are Bethany Usher, a former freelance News of the World journalist who is now a lecturer in Teeside, and PA journalist Laura Elston.
In 2009 Desborough was named showbiz reporter of the year at the British Press Awards.
