Guardian News & Media has appointed two senior technology directors to oversee the transformation to a ’24/7 digital media business”.

The publisher of The Guardian and The Observer has made the appointments ahead of its multi-million pound move to new offices in London’s Kings Cross next year.

Andy Beale has been appointed technology director: architecture and services and will have responsibility for operations and systems across GMN. Beale joined the company in 1996 and is currently deputy IT director, responsible for 70 staff and is running the IT side of the King’s Cross move.

Mike Bracken, a director at IT firm Wavex Technology, is the company’s new technology director: development, with responsibility for software and product development across the company’s web sites. Bracken helped to establish mysociety.org, which advises the voluntary sector on how to best use the internet. He starts his new role in January.

Both men will report to GNM chief operating officer Derek Gannon, and will be in charge of an expanded technology department.

Gannon said: ‘Technology is critical to GNM’s editorial and commercial future. In Andy and Mike we have two of the most respected experts in their fields, who will ensure GNM continues to lead the industry in ambition and innovation. “
