A London woman is demanding libel damages from Express Newspapers.
Atika Sidyot is demanding damages for defamation over three stories in the Daily Express on 12 August last year.
They were headed: ‘The Convert in Robes : Ibrahim Savant and wife Atika Sidyot”, ‘The Convert in Flowing Robes: Ibrahim Savant and wife Atika Sidyot’and ‘We’ve got the Mastermind and yes he’s British”, according to the writ.
Ibrahim Savant was one of a number of men arrested in connection with an alleged plot to blow up transatlantic airliners.
Sidyot is also seeking aggravated damages and an injunction banning repetition of the allegations at the centre of her claim. The writ was issued by Simons Muirhead and Burton.
