Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Evening Standard to mark first Night Tube with late night edition focusing on capital culture ‘with a mischievous twist’

By Freddy Mayhew

The Evening Standard will celebrate the opening of the Night Tube by producing a one-off culture-focused late edition “with a twist of late night mischief”, it was announced today.

The “Late Night Standard” will be handed out by street vendors between 6pm and 11pm on August 19 when select lines on the underground transport network are due to begin a 24-hour weekend service.

The late edition will place extra emphasis on culture including what’s on, restaurants and fashion as well as Night Tube etiquette and interviews with workers helping to keep the capital going throughout the night.

It will also feature an extension of the Standard’s Going Out guide, rebranded as Staying Out.

Some 80,000 copies of the 36-pager will be available at stations on the Central and Victoria lines, the first two to adopt the service. The Piccadilly, Jubilee and Northern lines are set to follow in autumn.

Jon O’Donnell, managing director of Evening Standard publishers ESI Media said: “Our brands play a central role in the power house city that is London so it is only right that we are front and centre of a major arrival like the all night tube.

“For one night only the Late Night Standard will give readers all they need to know about what’s going on but with a twist of late night mischief.”
