Channel 4, Guardian News and Media and the BBC each celebrated double wins at the One World Media Awards last night.
Dispatches won the television award for Children on the Frontline and Channel 4 News’s Guillermo Galdos was named international journalist of the year.
Elsewhere, Guardian Egypt correspondent Patrick Kingsley won the new voice award and Mark Townsend won the news award for an Observer article headlined: Raped, plundered, ignored: central Africa state where only killers thrive.
There were also wins for the BBC World Service and BBC Panorama at the 26th One World Media Awards.
Meanwhile, the special award, “given for an outstanding media organisation in the developing world making a real impact”, went to investigative Nigerian newspaper Premium Times.
“The winning entries remind us that we all share a common humanity, regardless of the lottery of where we are born. It’s essential to recognize the journalists, broadcasters and filmmakers who help us fully understand what is going on in the world and how our lives are all interconnected,” said Clothilde Redfern, director of One World Media.
The One World Media awards recognise journalism about the developing world which promotes "justice and fairness".
