Ex-News of the World editor and Downing Street communications chief Andy Coulson has dismissed claims he kept a diary while at Number 10
There has been speculation in newspaper diary columns this week that Coulson was sitting on a ‘ticking timebomb’- and that he had kept a detailed diary of his three years alongside David Cameron and George Osborne.
Appearing at the Leveson inquiry today, Coulson dismissed claims he had kept a diary between 2007 and his departure from Downing Street in 2010.
He did, however, say there were “notes that I would take in the course of my work both in opposition and in government”.
Coulson also told the inquiry he had “thoroughly enjoyed” working for News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch until he took the decision to resign in the wake of the phone-hacking conviction of ex-NoW Royal editor Clive Goodman.
Coulson said he still classed former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks as a friend, but added: “We haven’t spoken for a while for obvious reasons.”
