Caprice sues Sun over ‘Priory’ claims

By Press Gazette

Supermodel Caprice has launched a £100,000 legal battle for libel damages over stories in The Sun and on the paper’s website.

Caprice claims that a front-page story, which continued on two inside pages, headed ‘Caprice in Clinic’and ‘Caprice latest to check into Priory”, was defamatory.

The 20 February story claimed she was suffering from depression and addiction, probably to alcohol, and had to submit herself to full-time medical treatment, she says.

Caprice is also suing over a story the following day, headed ‘It’s Caprice on the piste’and ‘Model quits rehab to ski”.

She argues the story meant she was a depressed alcoholic washed-up has-been who, rather than get her life back on track by continuing with much-needed full-time medical treatment at the Priory, breezily and irresponsibly quit to go skiing and no doubt to continue boozing.

Caprice complains that her personal and professional reputations have been severely damaged by the stories, which have caused her huge distress and embarrassment.

The model turned actress fears that unless the court grants an injunction, publisher News Group International will repeat the allegations about her.

Now she is seeking damages for libel and an injunction banning repetition of the allegations at the centre of her claim.

The writ was issued by law firm Carter-Ruck.
