By Dominic Ponsford

Who says there’s no money in journalism?

The owners of some of the UK’s biggest newspapers rank highly on the Sunday Times Rich List of the country’s most wealthy individuals. Although it is worth noting that many make most of their money from other business interests outside the media.

Here’s the top ten entries on the The Sunday Times Rich List of those whose business interests include the world of journalism:

1. Sir David and Sir Frederick Barclay: £700m (12th overall). They own Telegraph Media Group and sold their stake in the Maybourne Group of luxury hotels last year.

2. Richard Desmond: £2,250m (48). The Express Newspapers owner made £463m from the sale of Channel 5 in 2014.

3. The Thomson family: £1,280m (84). They own Dundee-based DC Thomson.

4.Viscount Rothermere and family: £1,000m (117). Wealth mainly derived from the family stake in Daily Mail and General Trust.
