Free weekly Sport magazine is looking to launch overseas editions on the back of its success in the UK.
The title, which has a circulation of about 300,000 copies a week, was launched in March 2006 and went into administration three years later, along with a sister French title of the same name. But under current owners UTV, which also runs radio station Talk Sport, the title has managed to return annual profits of around £1m on turnover of around £4m, Press Gazette understands.
Now Tim Hudson has been recruited as International Director tasked with ‘looking at opportunities to expand the magazine in territories outside of the UK”.
He said: ‘I’ve worked with some fantastic brands during my career in publishing, but I’m really looking forward to this new opportunity with Sport. The magazine’s great content is readily transferable to overseas markets and its innovative distribution model delivers a huge but up market audience for advertisers. It’s a unique and compelling licensing proposition.”
An interview with Sport Magazine editor Simon Caney appears in the May edition of Press Gazette magazine – which is with subscribers this week.
