Shortlist magazine editor Martin Robinson to step down after five years in ‘best job’

By Freddy Mayhew

Martin Robinson is stepping down as editor of Shortlist magazine.

Robinson has spent five years at the helm of the free weekly men’s lifestyle magazine, which was founded in 2007 by Shortlist Media who also publish women’s weekly Stylist.

“This has been just the best job,” said Robinson, former deputy editor of NME magazine, who is said to be leaving to pursue personal projects.

“I’m really proud of the covers, the stories, the brilliant commercial partnerships and I’m delighted to be stepping away with the magazine in such a strong position. I wish the team all the best and will miss them.”

The company, which claims to be a pioneer of the “freemium” format and employs more than 170 people across several brands and multiple countries, has said it hopes to make an announcement about Robinson’s successor shortly.

Editorial director Phil Hilton said: “Martin has not only created an essential product for today’s man, he’s also managed brilliantly in what is a truly fast-changing world for print media. He’s been a pleasure to work with from first to last.”

CEO Mike Soutar added: “ShortList is, for many, the men’s magazine market. Martin has been a key figure in developing this part of our business. He is a talented editor who will do well in whatever he has lined up next.”
