PPA kicks off centenary celebrations by naming ten magazine covers of the century

The trade body for the magazine publishing industry the PPA kicked off its centenary celebrations last night with a reception at Millbank Towner in London which unveiled ten contenders for the title magazine cover of the century.

After a public vote the winning cover will be announced at the PPA’s centenary dinner in November.

PPA members were asked to submit entries for cover of the year and the winning ten were chosen by a judging panel.

PPA chairman Kevin Hand revealed that at the first meeting of the Periodical Publishers Association on 21 November, 1913, the agenda was fairly simple – comprising: “Printing, paper, distribution and how much to charge members for subscription fees”.

In 2011 the PPA changed its name to the Professional Publishers Association to better reflect that publishers are increasingly working across other platforms as well as magazines.
