New mag launched for UK’s 2.3 million diabetics

Independent Bournemouth-based Select Publisher Services has launched a magazine targeting the 2.3 million people in the UK who have been diagnosed with diabetics.

Sweet is a glossy consumer title with 96 pages in full colour and an initial print-run of 80,000, and is available in supermarkets and newsagents. Published bi-monthly initially, it will move to a six-weekly frequency in 2009. The initial print run is 80,000 launching on 29 May.

The magazine is edited by former editor of Slimming World Magazine and Slimming Magazine, Christine Michael, who works on a freelance basis.

She said: ‘There are 2.3 million people with diabetes in the UK, a further 750,000 who have it but don’t yet know it, and with rising obesity figures, even more who will be at risk in future. Having excellent supermarket distribution, which we have secured for the first issue, will put Sweet in front of readers who normally get information about their health from GP surgeries and hospital clinics.”

The magazine offers expert professional advice, healthy-eating recipes, safe weight-loss plans, real-life and celebrity stories and an emphasis on specific, relevant health issues for people with diabetes. It also targets families of those with diabetes, readers who are potentially at risk of diabetes and those who looking for a healthier lifestyle.
