Mag ABCs: Music titles hit the low notes

Paid-for title in the music (rock) sector had a difficult first six months in 2012, the latest ABC circulation figures show.

While Mojo was down only 2.4 per cent year on year to 85,149, rival title Q was hit by a 19.7 per cent slump in sales and IPC Media's Uncut fell 4.5 per cent to 63,003.

NME's rate of print decline rose from 14 per cent in the last half of 2011 to 17.6 per cent in the first half of 2012, dropping to 23,924 magazine sales a week..

Rival music weekly Kerrang! fell 6.6 per cent to 40,204.

Overall circulation within the sector was up by 14.5 per cent to 516,629, but this was down to the presence of free titles such The Fly, Properganda and The Stool Pigeon.

The Word magazine, which closed in June, was not audited by ABC.
