Axed News of the World assistant editor Ian Edmondson has stood down as editor of lads’ magazine Loaded a year after his appointment.
Former News of the World assistant editor Edmondson, who is currently awaiting trial on phone-hacking charges, has stepped down after a year and a day at the helm of the title.
He was unveiled as editor on 22 May last year vowing to take the title “back to the glory days”.
He told Press Gazette: "After a year of being the proud custodian of Loaded magazine I have decided to step down and hand over the editorship to a young man who should know better.
"I wish him and the Loaded team great success as the magazine faces the challenges of the digital market."
Edmondson is to be replaced by former Zoo sports editor Jamie Wallis who initially moved to Blue Publishing to work on Loaded's sister title Zip.
Since appointing Edmondson, owner Blue Publishing has launched Loaded TV, an app and announced plans for a Loaded training scheme.
In addition, Edmondson oversaw the launch of weekly lads’ magazine Zip as editor-in-chief and announced plans for the launch of a new women’s weekly Rush.
Last week, Press Gazette revealed that Zip has been axed as a print product after nine issues and Rush will likely be an online-only title also.
The closure did result in job losses and Wallis was initially laid off before being called back to edit Zip online.
Jamie is the nephew of former News of the World executive editor Neil Wallis who was told this year he would not face prosecution over phone-hacking claims.
