Harper’s Bazaar’s Sarah Bailey replaces Sam Baker as editor-in-chief of Red

By William Turvill

Harper’s Bazaar’s deputy editor is to take over the editorship of women’s monthly Red next month.

Sarah Bailey (pictured), who had been at Bazaar for five years, replaces Sam Baker as editor-in-chief of Red on 12 February. Both titles are owned by Hearst Magazines UK.

Bailey has also worked for Harper’s Bazaar US as deputy editor-in-chief, Elle UK as editor and Elle Girl UK as editor.

“I’m very pleased that we have been able to appoint someone from within the Hearst stable to this high profile role,” said Hearst UK chief executive Arnaud de Puyfontaine.

“Sarah has proven herself to be an exceptional editor, writer and team player during her time at Harper’s Bazaar and I’m confident she will bring the same enthusiasm and passion to her new role at Red.”

Red, which was launched in February 1998, recorded a print circulation of 226,116 (down 2.2 per cent year on year) in the first half of last year, compared with Harper's Bazaar's 119,274 (up 0.4 per cent year on year).

Bailey said: "Red is an absolutely wonderful brand which I have admired since its launch. I am thrilled to be joining it and look forward to working with the talented Red team."

Former Cosmopolitan UK editor Baker had edited Red since 2006.
