Full House closes with loss of 20 jobs as women’s weekly market continues to suffer

By Gavriel Hollander

The women’s weekly market has suffered another blow with the closure of Full House after eight years.

The real life magazine’s last issue will be released tomorrow. The closure leaves around 20 editorial staff out of a job, including editor Dave Claridge.

Full House’s average weekly circulation for the six months to the end of last year was 138,158. In the six months after it launched in 2005, circulation peaked at an average of 235,787.

Full House and sister title Love It were bought from Hubert Burda Media UK last May by its then chief executive Luke Patten, who published them under his new Pep Publishing imprint.

The closure comes following the recent demise of Bauer title More, which announced in April that it was suspending publication pending a consultation period. Bauer said the print title was “no longer viable” because of “challenging economic conditions”.

Earlier this month, Condé Nast suspended the print edition of its Easy Living monthly in a move that threatens up to 30 jobs. A final decision on the print title will be made later in the summer but it is expected to shut down as the magazine goes digital only.
