The editor of The Lady magazine is to stand down this summer, with a replacement as yet unnamed.
Matt Warren, who took on the job from Rachel Johnson in January 2012, is moving on to become a freelance journalist and paragliding instructor.
Before joining The Lady as assistant editor in 2010, has was commissioning features editor of the Daily Mail.
On his move, Warren said: “When I first moved from the Daily Mail to Britain’s longest-running women’s weekly, the cries were all the same: ‘What! A man at The Lady?’
“Four years on, the magazine has won awards (and is now up for PPA Consumer Magazine of the Year), gained readers in a punishing market and moved, slightly, into profit. We have had quite a tango.
“But now it’s time for a change. Once a suitable replacement has been made comfortable in the editor’s chair, I shall be moving on to write for a range of publications, plan hair-raising expeditions – and teach paragliding.
“In the absence of my weekly free copies, I may even become a The Lady subscriber.”
He added: “If any of my former readers wish to try paragliding, they can find me here: https://www.flysussex.com/.”
The Lady celebrated its 130th birthday earlier this year and was the best performing women’s weekly in the second half of 2014, according to ABC, growing by 3 per cent year on year to 28,537.
